Wildcats

Wally's prediction: Nebraska 42 Northwestern 38
Actual score: Nebraska 66 Northwestern 17

Dec 30th in The Alamo Bowl 1 2 3 4 F
Northwestern 3 14 0 0 17
Nebraska 7 31 21 7 66

Prediction:
The season has come down to NU vs. NU. This is nothing new for the Huskers - we have met the enemy
and it is us. But it's time to regroup and face a feisty Northwestern team. No, not in tennis! They play
football in Chicagoland, too. Just not very consistently. Northwestern hasn't played in a bowl game since
the 1996 season and they're griping about having to go to this one. Can't say I blame them, but this should
be a very interesting game. Unless you like defense, that is. Just sit back and watch the NU's light up the
scoreboard. Defense may win championships but it won't win the Alamo Bowl. The last team to score wins.

Series history: Nebraska leads 2-1
Last game: Nebraska won 49-7 in 1974 in Lincoln
Last Northwestern victory: 1931

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
Nebraska is being accused of running up the score again. Against the Big 10 Co-Champions. He, he.
The Wildcats entered with a roar and exited with a whimper, having no idea that Rout 66 ran smack dab
through San Antonio. The Blackshirts rose to the occasion and set the tone for the game on Northwestern's
first 3 and out possesion. The high-octane offense that blitzed Michigan for 54 points ran out of gas.
Running up the score, indeed. Nebraska was merciful in not laying down a hundred on the Big 10's finest.

buffs

Wally's prediction: Nebraska 35 Colorado 21
Actual score: Nebraska 34 Colorado 32

Nov 24th in Lincoln 1 2 3 4 F
Colorado 0 10 7 15 32
Nebraska 14 0 7 13 34

Prediction:
Nebraska won't lose at home to a team that tries to muster motivation by removing decals from their helmets.
Not against a down and out program whose version of the bowl season involves a wooden alley and funny shoes.
Not this year, Buff fans. Don't eat too much turkey because the Huskers are hosting a Buffalo feast on Friday.

Series history: Nebraska leads 41-14-2
Last game: Nebraska won 33-30 in 1999 at Boulder
Last Colorado victory: 1990

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
What is with the Buffs breathing down our neck every season? They can be 10-0 or 0-10 and it doesn't matter.
Their entire season boils down to this game and Barnett squibbed it away with 47 seconds to go. Nebraska's
offense rose to the occasion and gave Josh Brown the redemption he deserved after an off night in Manhattan.
In the end it's the same old story: CU shines their balls and sets the pins while the Cornhuskers go Bowling.

Wildcats

Wally's prediction: Nebraska 35 Kansas State 24
Actual score: Nebraska 28 Kansas State 29

Nov 11th in Manhattan 1 2 3 4 F
Nebraska 14 0 0 14 28
Kansas State 7 10 6 6 29

Prediction:
It's time again to declaw the kitties. Kansas State is a good team and won't be overlooked by the Huskers.
But the Mildcats already had their one victory over Nebraska and will have to wait another 31 years for
their next. NU will make a statement to claim a spot in the race for the Mythical National Championship.

Series history: Nebraska leads 70-11-3
Last game: Nebraska won 41-15 in 1999 in Lincoln
Last Kansas State victory: 1998 40-30 at KSU

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
There will be no disputed ballots or recounts after Saturday night. Kansas State dared Nebraska to throw
the ball and Eric Crouch couldnít pass gas. The Cornhuskers showed again how predictable and one-dimensional
their offense has become and how vulnerable the Blackshirts are against a mobile Quarterback who can throw.
At least the Huskers spared themselves the embarrassment of getting beat by OU twice in the same season.

Jayhawks

Wally's prediction: Nebraska 49 Kansas 14
Actual score: Nebraska 56 Kansas 17

Nov 4th in Lincoln 1 2 3 4 F
Kansas 0 3 0 14 17
Nebraska 21 14 14 7 56

Prediction:
Nebraska will win Saturday, make no mistake about that. But the Huskers will need more
than just wins to stay ahead of Miami and Florida in the BCS polls: We'll need style points.
Getting to the Orange Bowl means more than vanilla dive plays over the middle. We have to
increase the degree of difficulty and add some flare. We'll have to do back flips and full gainers
with a three quarter twist. But please Frank, no belly flops. Nebraska needs to produce oohs
and aahs from the BCS pollsters. It's not just whether you win. It's how you play the game.

Series history: Nebraska leads 76-16-3
Last game: Nebraska won 24-17 in 1999 in Lawrence
Last Kansas victory: 1968

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
Punter Dan Hadenfeldt was given the day off after wearing out his leg in Norman. The Huskers showed no
evidence of a post-defeat letdown and they shouldn't have against a Kansas team that hasn't won a game against
Nebraska since the earth was flat. The Cornhuskers will complete the sweep of the sunflower state next week.

Sooners

Wally's prediction: Nebraska 42 Oklahoma 28
Actual score: Nebraska 14 Oklahoma 31

Oct 28 in Norman 1 2 3 4 F
Nebraska 14 0 0 0 14
Oklahoma 0 24 7 0 31

Prediction:
This isn't the game of the century but definitely the game of the week. Oklahoma football is back
after having been missing in action for most of the past decade. This isn't your Father's Sooners-
these guys air it out to the tune of 327 yards per game and can score quicker than a Texas coed
on Spring Break. But the 2000 Cornhuskers are finally jelling as a team and will storm in Norman.

Series history: Oklahoma leads 39-36-3
Last game: Nebraska won 69-7 in 1997 in Lincoln
Last Oklahoma victory: 1990

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
The team that I thought was finally jelling turned into Jello. QB Josh Heupel has my Heisman vote.
Solich and the Cornhuskers simply had no answer for him today as they were out-played, out-coached,
and out-hustled by a better football team. Nebraska failed to make the necessary adjustments and made
way too many mistakes. Congratulations to the OU Sooners. Hope we'll see you again in Kansas City.

Bears

Wally's prediction: Nebraska 63 Baylor 7
Actual score: Nebraska 59 Baylor 0

Oct 21 in Lincoln 1 2 3 4 F
Baylor 0 0 0 0 0
Nebraska 38 14 7 0 59

Prediction:
Nebraska has a week off to prepare for their showdown with the Sooners in Norman.
Oh, wait a minute. It says right here on the schedule that Baylor is coming to town.
Like I was saying, Nebraska has a week off to prepare for their game with Oklahoma.

Series history: Nebraska leads 5-1
Last game: Nebraska won 49-21 in 1997 in Lincoln
Last Baylor victory: 1956

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
The Cornhuskers were loaded for Bear today and ruined Tommie Frazier's homecoming to Lincoln.
This game had all the earmarks of a Mike Tyson boxing match as the Blackshirts logged the first shutout
of the season. Crouch & Company will be healthy and well rested as they set their sights on Norman.

Red Raiders

Wally's prediction: Nebraska 56 Texas Tech 21
Actual score: Nebraska 56 Texas Tech 3

Oct 14 in Lubbock 1 2 3 4 F
Nebraska 14 14 7 21 56
Texas Tech 0 0 3 0 3

Prediction:
The Cornhuskers will redefine the term "Red Raiders" as they swoop into Lubbock and snatch another victory.
Bar the windows, lock the doors, and warm up the ambulance as The BIG RED Machine turns the corner towards Miami.

Series history: Nebraska leads 5-0
Last game: Nebraska won 29-0 in 1997 in Lincoln
Last Texas Tech victory: Never

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
So much for the 'Air Raider' passing attack. The Cornhusker Blackshirts shut down a team that had grown fat from
feasting on cream puffs. Texas Tech has proven that students of the Bill Snyder School of Scheduling usually flunk
the final exam. The Raiders wish they had just read the Cliff Notes instead of having the book thrown at them by NU.

Cyclones

Wally's prediction: Nebraska 42 Iowa State 28
Actual score: Nebraska 49 Iowa State 27

Oct 7 in Ames 1 2 3 4 F
Nebraska 0 13 8 28 49
Iowa State 7 7 6 7 27

Prediction:
The Nebraska-ISU game is the annual showdown of undefeated teams battling for Big 12 supremacy. WHAT?
Iowa State is 4-0 for the first time in 20 years and will be aiming for that Bullseye on the Big Red jerseys.
But the Cornhuskers will detour the Cyclone victory parade and reintroduce them to the loss column.

Series history: Nebraska leads 76-13-2
Last game: Nebraska won 49-14 in 1999 in Lincoln
Last Iowa State victory: 1992

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
Iowa State hung around for most of the game and made things interesting. The Cyclones played three solid quarters
and Nebraska played four. ISU is still ISU, but give them credit for working the national media into an upset-predicting
frenzy. This week showcased conference strengths but raised the question of why we diluted the BIG 8 by including Texas.

Tigers

Wally's prediction: Nebraska 31 Missouri 10
Actual score: Nebraska 42 Missouri 24

Sept 30 in Lincoln 1 2 3 4 F
Missouri 7 7 10 0 24
Nebraska 7 21 7 7 42

Prediction:
There will be no need for miracles against Mizzou this time around. Missouri is not as strong as in
years past but they always manage to get up for the Nebraska game. The Cornhusker ground game
will find the endzone this week and roll over the Tigers like a runaway combine in a cornfield.
But rumors are flying about injuries involving Eric Crouch. Well, you heard it here first, folks.
My sister-in law is reporting that her neighbor's hair stylist saw Eric Crouch coming out of a
proctologist's office and that his injuries will keep him off the bench for this week's game :-)

Series history: Nebraska leads 53-29-3
Last game: Nebraska won 40-10 in 1999 at MU
Last Missouri victory: 1978

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
We needed another miracle to beat Missouri after all. No, the Cornhuskers didnít use the old
Ďkick the ball up in the air and catch it for a TDí play again. But it was a miracle that Nebraska
won despite giving up 492 yards of offense. Maybe Charlie McBride can be coaxed out of retirement.
At least we know that Eric Crouch is healthy. But please send a get well card to the Blackshirts.

Hawkeyes
Wally's prediction: Nebraska 56 Iowa 7
Actual score: Nebraska 42 Iowa 13

Sept 23 in Lincoln 1 2 3 4 F
Iowa 7 6 0 0 13
Nebraska 7 14 7 14 42

Prediction:
O.K. I'm trying to be politically correct here but this game is gonna be a real snoozer.
The Fat Lady may not be singing the National Anthem but she'll be part of the half-time show.
If anyone criticizes NU for scheduling this game just tell them that Iowa was one of the few
Big 10+1 schools to accept NU's standing offer of a home and away series. And that the
Iowa Hawkeyes will be the best 0-11 team in the country after the season is over.

Series history: Nebraska leads 21-9-1
Last game: Nebraska won 42-7 in 1999 at Iowa
Last Iowa victory: 1981

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
The final score doesnít reflect how close this game really was but donít go taking a header off the grain bin
just yet, Huskerfan. Turn off the ignition on the pickup and open the garage door. NU is typically rusty after an
open week and this game was no exception. NU wins Corn Bowl XXXII and moves one win closer toward Miami.

domers

Wally's prediction: Nebraska 35 Notre Dame 17
Actual score: Nebraska 27 Notre Dame 24

Sept 9 in South Bend 1 2 3 4 OT F
Nebraska 7 7 7 0 6 27
Notre Dame 0 7 7 7 3 24

Prediction:
Notre Dame fans may think this is the year they begin their climb back to respectability.
Doubtful. They could just as easily start off the season 1-3. The Huskers will show them
just how steep their climb will be. Nebraska simply has too much firepower for ND to handle.
The first half may be close as ND feeds off the energy of their rabid faithful. But in the end,
Domers will wish they had stayed home watching 'Rudy' while dreaming of their bygone glory.

Series history: Notre Dame leads 7-6-1
Last game: Nebraska won 40-6 in 1973 Orange Bowl
Last ND victory: 1948

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
The game went pretty much as I expected. Oh, except for the 317 yards and 2 touchdowns we gave
up on special teams. These guys obviously rode the short bus to the stadium. You've got to give props
to the Domers who had been preparing for this game since February. The Irish could manage only 7 points
against the Blackshirts in regulation but they made enough big plays to keep it close. This game will serve
the Huskers well in their march to Miami. NU will make adjustments so don't be surprised when you see
Eric Crouch playing on special teams. Either that or the kickers need to practice kicking the ball out of bounds.

Spartans

Wally's prediction: Nebraska 54 San Jose State 10
Actual score: Nebraska 49 San Jose State 13

Sept 2 in Lincoln 1 2 3 4 F
San Jose State 6 0 7 0 13
Nebraska 14 14 14 7 49

Prediction:
The Spartans and Cornhuskers will make history in the first ever live video webcast of an
NCAA Division-1A football game. Nebraska gets a tuneup for their showdown in South Bend.
The San Jose State Spartans will get a huge payday - and a brutal beating.

Series history: The two teams have never met prior to this game

Wally's view from the cheap seats:
How hot was it? Throw in some hickory chips and NU could have grilled T-bones on the fifty yard line.
The home opener played out as expected. The Huskers didnít show much on defense today because
they simply did not have to. Iíve seen more blitzing at a neighborhood garage sale. Not to worry,
bandwagon jumpers. The blackshirts have plenty of tricks in their bag - and that bag wasnít
even on the sideline Saturday. The Offensive line was very impressive on their side of the ball.
The offense made it look so easy that Eric Crouch might as well have been sitting in the backfield
with a lawn chair and a cold beverage. And for everyone who was disappointed that Nebraska
didnít score over 100 points today, here's something to consider: You could be a Penn State fan.
